QUINCY, Ill - Quincy University women's soccer controlled much of Saturday afternoon's matchup with Davenport University, but a two-goal second-half lead results in the Hawks settling for a 2-2 draw at Jack Mackenzie Field.
Quincy dictated the attacking play for much of the afternoon, finishing with a 20-13 advantage in shots and putting 11 attempts on frame compared to Davenport's eight. The Hawks also consistently tested Davenport goalkeeper Elizabeth Wolter, who finished with nine saves.
The Hawks broke through in the 25th minute when
Rebecca Rheinheimer put Quincy in front. Rheinheimer continues her scoring streak this season, which gave the Hawks a 1-0 advantage that they carried into halftime.
Quincy continued to apply pressure after the break and doubled its advantage just minutes into the second half. In the 49th minute, Marina Oberschmid scored her third collegiate goal off an assist from Jessie Newton, putting the Hawks ahead 2-0. Despite Quincy continuing to generate opportunities, Davenport began to claw its way back. The Panthers cut the deficit in half in the 66th minute when Madison Fant scored off an assist from Kyle Shelton, making it a 2-1 game.
Davenport then found the equalizer in the 79th minute. Autumn Wakefield finished a chance off an assist, leveling the match at 2-2. The Hawks continued searching for a late winner, but Davenport held on through the final whistle. Quincy finished the match with 10 shots in each half and ultimately outshot the Panthers 20-13, but could not turn its territorial advantage into a decisive third goal.
Devin Tracy made six saves for Quincy, while Rheinheimer led the Hawks offensively with eight shots and four shots on goal. Oberschmid added a goal on one of her two shots, while Newton contributed the assist on Quincy's second goal.
Saturday's result continued a competitive recent history between the two programs. Quincy entered the afternoon having won the most recent meeting, a 2-0 road victory over Davenport last September. In that match, Wolfard opened the scoring before Oberschmid added a second goal, with Newton assisting on both goals. Oberschmid now has 3 career goals, 2 of which were against Davenport.
The all-time series had been evenly matched entering Saturday, with Quincy holding a 3-3-1 record against Davenport. The Panthers had won the two meetings immediately preceding Quincy's 2025 victory, including a 1-0 victory in 2024.
Quincy will take the 2-2 draw as its second consecutive tie to open the 2026 season, while the Hawks will look to turn their strong offensive pressure into a full three points in their next contest.
The women will play their next match on Wednesday, September 2, at 2:00 PM as they travel to Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS.
