QUINCY, Ill. —
Payton Mansfield has been named the Quincy University Toyota Star of the Week after a dominant all-around performance in the Hawks' series win over Upper Iowa, helping Quincy take three of four games and clinch a spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament for the 15th consecutive season.
Mansfield was electric at the plate across the four-game set, posting a staggering .412/.545/1.000 slash line for a 1.545 OPS. He went 7-for-17 with one double, three home runs, 12 RBIs, and seven runs scored, while also drawing four walks, getting hit by a pitch, and adding a stolen base. His impact extended beyond offense, as he was flawless defensively, highlighted by an outfield assist in the series finale, and even contributed on the mound by closing out game four with a perfect ninth inning to earn his second save of the season.
He set the tone early in game one, going 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored despite a 13-6 loss. Mansfield continued to produce in game two's 28-7 win, driving in two runs, scoring twice, and drawing a pair of walks. In game three, he delivered one of his biggest performances of the weekend, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs, and a hit by pitch in a 12-6 victory. He capped off the series in game four with another home run, three RBIs, two runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base, while also recording an outfield assist and sealing the win on the mound with a scoreless ninth.
On the season, Mansfield has been a force in the middle of the lineup for the Hawks. Through 37 games and 36 starts, he is hitting .360 with a .497 on-base percentage and a .736 slugging percentage, leading the team and ranking among the top hitters in the conference. His 1.233 OPS paces Quincy and sits fourth in the GLVC, while his 41 runs scored, 46 RBIs, and 24 extra-base hits, including 11 home runs, continue to fuel the Hawks' offense.
Mansfield and the Hawks will be back in action tomorrow for their final regular season contest against Western Illinois. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM from Alfred D. Boyer Stadium in Macomb, Illinois.
