Box Score MACOMB, Ill. – Quincy closed out the regular season on Tuesday afternoon, falling 12-2 to Division I foe Western Illinois. The Hawks now shift their focus to the upcoming GLVC Tournament after finishing the regular season at 31-19 overall.
Quincy had opportunities early, putting traffic on the bases in multiple innings, but struggled to capitalize, leaving 10 runners on base in the contest. The Hawks broke through in the third inning when
Jace Figuereo and
Payton Mansfield each singled before
Ari Fivelson drove them both in with a two-run single to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Western Illinois built its lead behind a big second inning and added on late, using a four-run seventh and three-run eighth to pull away. Despite the scoreline, Quincy collected nine hits on the afternoon and continued to show consistency at the plate.
Ben Dahlof led the Hawks with two hits, extending his hit streak to six games while surpassing 150 career hits. Figuereo, Mansfield, and
Isaiah Fudge each pushed their hit streaks to six games, while
Ari Fivelson extended his to five games and has now driven in runs in each of those contests.
Joe Huffman added a hit to reach the 200-hit milestone for his career.
On the mound, Quincy utilized a full bullpen approach, throwing nine different pitchers throughout the game.
Michael Infranca,
Ethan McMasters, and
Quinn Schultz provided solid middle relief efforts, while
Brady Lowe struck out two in his inning of work.
The Hawks will now await GLVC Tournament seeding as the final conference games wrap up this weekend. Quincy will have time to rest and prepare for postseason play, set for May 6–9 at Mountain Dew Park in Marion, Illinois.
