FAYETTE, Iowa – Quincy swept Saturday's doubleheader against Upper Iowa in dominant fashion, rolling to a 28-7 win in game two before finishing off the sweep with a 12-6 victory in game three. With the wins, the Hawks reached the 30-win mark on the season.
Game 2: Quincy 28, Upper Iowa 7
The tone was set immediately in the top of the first as Quincy sent 19 batters to the plate and scored 14 runs. The inning featured a mix of timely hitting and patience at the plate, highlighted by RBI singles from
Payton Mansfield,
Joe Huffman, and
Isaiah Fudge, along with a two-run double from Fudge and a two-run single from
Byron Blaise. The Hawks also capitalized on walks and hit-by-pitches to keep the line moving, building a commanding 14-0 lead before Upper Iowa recorded the third out.
Upper Iowa answered with a run in the bottom half and added four more in the second, but Quincy continued to pour it on offensively. The Hawks added two runs in the second inning and three more in the third, extending the lead to 19-5.
Quincy continued to add on throughout the middle innings, scoring three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth. The long ball capped off the day in the seventh as
Ari Fivelson launched his seventh home run of the season before Fudge followed with a two-run homer, his fifth of the year, to push the lead to 28-7.
Fudge delivered a career day at the plate, driving in a career-high eight RBIs while recording his second game this season with at least four hits. He now leads the team with 55 RBIs. Fivelson added his seventh home run of the season, recording his fifth multi-hit game and sixth game with at least three RBIs.
Mansfield surpassed 150 career RBIs and finished with a multi-hit performance, while Huffman reached both 150 career RBIs and 100 career walks and homered for the seventh time this season. Blaise also reached a milestone with his 100th career RBI while tallying his sixth game with at least three hits.
Ben Dahlof recorded his eighth game this season with at least three hits and scored five times for the first time in his career. Figuereo extended his streak with a third consecutive multi-hit game, while Fandre added his third straight multi-hit performance.
Jack Haggard was hit by a pitch for the first time in his career.
On the mound,
Logan Mueller earned his second straight win, while
Alex Pickus was dominant out of the bullpen, striking out a career-high four batters over two innings of relief.
Game 3: Quincy 12, Upper Iowa 6
The Hawks offense stayed red hot throughout the day, combining for 40 runs and 26 hits across the two games. Quincy jumped on Upper Iowa early in game two with a 14-run first inning and never looked back, while continuing that momentum into game three with consistent scoring across multiple innings.
In game three, Quincy struck first in the opening inning as Dahlof worked a walk, stole second for his 50th career stolen base, and eventually scored on a passed ball. The Hawks added two more runs in the second behind an RBI double from Fudge and a sacrifice fly from
David Broughton to take a 3-1 lead.
Quincy extended the lead in the fourth on an RBI single from Fivelson before breaking the game open in the sixth. With the bases loaded,
Jace Figuereo delivered a two-run single for his 100th career hit, while
Harry Fandre followed with an RBI walk, also reaching 100 career hits. Huffman added a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 8-1.
The Hawks put the game away in the seventh when Mansfield launched his team-leading 10th home run of the season, a grand slam to left-center that extended the lead to 12-2.
Figuereo and Fandre each reached the 100-hit milestone, while Dahlof's stolen base marked the 50th of his career. Mansfield led the offense in game three, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Fudge added a double and an RBI.
On the mound,
Kade Ruffner earned the win after tossing six innings, allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out four.
Jared Rodriguez added an inning of relief to close out the victory.
The Hawks will look to take three of four with game four tomorrow at 12:00 PM against the Peacocks.
