LIBERTY, Mo. – Quincy swept Saturday's doubleheader against William Jewell, taking game one 10-3 before shutting out the Cardinals 8-0 in game two. The Hawks have now won four straight games against William Jewell in the series and improved to 27-16 overall and 15-11 in GLVC play. The Hawks offense stayed hot throughout the day, scoring 18 runs on 21 hits while blasting five home runs across the two games.
Game 1: Quincy 10, William Jewell 3
Quincy jumped on William Jewell early in the opener, scoring four runs in the first inning.
Ben Dahlof doubled to start the game before
Payton Mansfield drove him in with an RBI single. After
Isaiah Fudge walked,
Joe Huffman crushed a three-run homer to right field to quickly make it 4-0.
Quincy added two more runs in the third inning when Huffman walked and
Harry Fandre drilled a two-run home run down the right field line off of the foul pole. In the fourth,
Jace Figuereo reached on an error, stole second, advanced to third on another error, and scored when Mansfield launched a two-run homer to left field. Fandre added his second home run of the game in the seventh inning as the Hawks rolled to the 10-3 win.
Ryan Sell earned his second straight strong win on the mound in game one, tossing six innings and allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
Michael Infranca followed with two innings of relief before
Leyton Parmer finished things off in the ninth.
Mansfield finished with his first four-hit game of the season, going 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs while surpassing 150 career RBIs. Huffman hit his fifth home run of the season and drove in three runs. Fandre recorded his second career multi-home run game with his fourth and fifth home runs of the season while driving in three runs. Dahlof went 2-for-5 to extend his hit streak to six games.
Game 2: Quincy 8, William Jewell 0
In game two,
Logan Mueller dominated in his first career win as a starter. Mueller tossed six shutout innings, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out two.
Brady Lowe followed with a scoreless seventh inning for his second straight scoreless outing in just his third appearance of the season.
The Hawks grabbed the lead in the first inning of game two when Fudge doubled and Mansfield followed with an RBI double. Huffman added another RBI double later in the frame to make it 2-0. Quincy added a run in the fourth on a
Byron Blaise RBI double before Mansfield broke the game open in the fifth with a two-run homer to center field. In the sixth inning, Blaise singled, Dahlof followed with a hit, and Fudge loaded the bases with another single before Mansfield cleared them with a three-run double to give the Hawks an 8-0 advantage.
Mansfield had a monster day at the plate across the two games, going 7-for-9 with 10 RBIs, four extra-base hits, and his team-leading eighth home run of the season. Dahlof extended his hit streak to seven games, while Fudge recorded his seventh game of the season with at least three hits. Mansfield also recorded his fourth game this season with at least three hits. Fandre added two home runs in game one and now has five on the year.
The Hawks will be back in action tomorrow looking to sweep William Jewell with another doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.
