Quincy Completes Weekend Sweep of Thomas More, Moves to 2-0 in GLVC

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team completed the weekend sweep of Thomas More University on Saturday afternoon inside Pepsi Arena, defeating the Saints in straight sets 25-13, 25-23, 25-18. With the victory, the Hawks improved to 2-0 in GLVC play, securing their second straight conference sweep over the Saints.

Quincy delivered another efficient offensive performance, recording 35 kills while hitting .373 as a team. The Hawks also totaled 28 assists, 24 digs, and four service aces, while taking advantage of Thomas More errors to control the match throughout.

Set One

Quincy set the tone early in the opening frame, building momentum with a balanced attack. The Hawks jumped out to a 10-7 lead behind kills from Zackary Zdrojeski, Tomas Badan, and Trey Severson.

Midway through the set, Quincy broke the game open with an 8-3 run, highlighted by a service ace from Bauer Larson and a kill from Barnabas Fenyvesi that pushed the advantage to 20-12. The Saints struggled to generate offense as the Hawks closed the set on a strong note, finishing the opener 25-13 to take an early match lead.

Set Two

The second set proved to be the most competitive of the match as both teams traded points early. Quincy held a 12-10 advantage before Fenyvesi recorded back-to-back kills to help spark the Hawks' offense.

Thomas More briefly took its first lead of the afternoon when Maciej Kopacz delivered a kill to make it 18-17, but the Hawks quickly responded. Quincy closed the set on a 7-5 run, highlighted by a key kill from Isaiah Travis, to secure the 25-23 victory and move one set away from the sweep.

Set Three

Looking to close out the match, Quincy once again seized early control in the third set. The Hawks built a 15-10 lead behind consistent offensive pressure and several Thomas More attack errors.

Quincy extended the advantage with a 5-1 run, which included a service ace from Larson and another kill from Fenyvesi. The Saints were unable to mount a comeback as the Hawks finished the match with four straight points, capped by a Badan service ace to seal the 25-18 set win and the straight-set victory.

Match Leaders

Larson led Quincy with 10 kills while hitting .444, while Badan delivered an extremely efficient performance with three kills on a .750 hitting percentage, along with a service ace and strong presence at the net. Fenyvesi added six kills on a .625 clip, and Severson finished with four kills and a team-high 14 assists, directing the Hawks' offense.

Quincy finished with a 35-27 advantage in kills while holding Thomas More to .108 hitting for the match. For Thomas More, Dominic Rossi led the Saints with 13 kills on 27 attempts.
