Quincy, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team opened the weekend with a straight-set win on Friday night, sweeping Jamestown 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-23) at Pepsi Arena. The Hawks used a balanced offensive attack, a strong night from the service line, and steady play at the net to improve to 6-6 overall and 3-0 in GLVC play.
Quincy finished with 41 kills on 98 attempts and hit .255 as a team, while also totaling 35 assists, eight service aces, 33 digs, and seven block assists with one solo block. The Hawks controlled key stretches of the match by applying pressure from the service line, forcing Jamestown into three reception errors while limiting the Jimmies' chances to build sustained momentum. Jamestown finished with 34 kills and hit .261, but Quincy made the timely plays late in each set to complete the sweep.
Set One
In the opening set, the two teams were locked in early with the score tied 6-6 before Quincy found its rhythm behind the serve of
Tomas Badan. Badan delivered three aces during a key stretch that helped the Hawks build separation, while
Bauer Larson and
Barnabas Fenyvesi added kills to keep the offense rolling. Quincy hit an efficient .407 in the set with 15 kills and used that early momentum to close out a 25-20 win.
Set Two
Jamestown responded with an early push in set two, but the Hawks settled in and answered with contributions from across the lineup. Fenyvesi, Larson, and
Isaiah Travis all produced key points as Quincy erased the deficit and eventually evened the frame at 19-19.
Trey Severson continued to guide the offense effectively, and the Hawks capitalized late with a Larson kill and a Jamestown error to take the set 25-22 and move within one set of the match.
Set Three
The final set was the tightest of the night, with Jamestown again grabbing the early edge. Quincy responded with a balanced attack led by Badan, Larson, and Fenyvesi, while Severson kept the ball moving to multiple options across the front row. A late ace from Severson helped swing momentum back to the Hawks, and Quincy made the final push down the stretch, with Badan putting away the match-clinching kill in a 25-23 victory.
Match Leaders
Larson and Badan shared the team lead with 13.5 points apiece. Larson paced the Hawks with a career-high 13 kills, while Badan added seven kills, four service aces, and four total blocks.
