Hawks Sweep Saints in Straight Sets to Open GLVC Play

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team opened conference play in dominant fashion Friday night, sweeping Thomas More University in straight sets inside Pepsi Arena. The Hawks defeated the Saints 25-15, 25-18, 25-12, using strong serving and efficient offense to earn their first GLVC victory of the season.

Set One

Quincy established the tone early in the opening frame, building momentum behind aggressive serving and balanced offensive production. The Hawks jumped out to an early lead behind a service ace from Bauer Larson and kills from Zackary Zdrojeski, Trey Severson, and Barnabas Fenyvesi.

The Saints struggled to find an offensive rhythm as Quincy continued to apply pressure from the service line. The Hawks maintained control throughout the set, closing the frame with strong play at the net as Larson and Zdrojeski added key kills down the stretch to secure a 25-15 opening-set victory.

Set Two

The second set opened with both teams trading points early before Quincy began to create separation midway through the frame. Several Thomas More service errors helped the Hawks take a 12-9 lead, before Quincy went on a five-point run that included service aces from Isaiah Travis and Tomas Badan.

With the momentum firmly on their side, the Hawks continued to control the pace offensively and defensively. Quincy closed the set on a late run to secure another 25-18 victory, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set Three

Quincy quickly put the match out of reach in the third set. The Hawks opened the frame on a 5-0 run and never looked back, building a 13-5 advantage behind strong serving and efficient attacking.

Fenyvesi and Badan each contributed service aces during the run as Quincy continued to force Thomas More out of the system. The Saints briefly trimmed the deficit late in the set, but Quincy responded with a strong closing stretch that included a service ace from Ryne Jacobsen and kills from Alex Barkley and Larson to seal the match with a 25-12 victory.

Match Leaders

Larson and Zdrojeski led the Hawks offensively with eight kills each, while Badan delivered an efficient performance with six kills on a team-best .455 hitting percentage. Fenyvesi added five kills and three service aces, while Isaiah Travis also recorded three aces.

Trey Severson directed the offense with 27 assists, helping Quincy hit above .300 for the match. Larson led the team defensively with six digs, while several Hawks contributed to the balanced defensive effort.
