ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Quincy University women's basketball team will begin postseason play Thursday afternoon as the Hawks travel to St. Louis, Missouri, for the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. Quincy, the No. 7 seed with a 15-12 overall record and a 12-8 mark in conference play, will face No. 2 seed Maryville (22-6, 16-4 GLVC) at 2:15 PM inside the Mark Twain Building on the campus of Missouri–St. Louis.
The matchup serves as a rematch of last season's GLVC Championship game, when the Hawks defeated Maryville 64-60 to claim the program's third conference tournament title.
Coaching Staff
Quincy enters the tournament under first-year head coach
Ali Schwagmeyer-Belger, who is in her first season leading the Hawks and second overall as a head coach. Maryville is led by Brita Hand, now in her fourth season with the Saints. Hand has compiled a 72-45 record at Maryville and is in her sixth year overall as a collegiate head coach.
Tournament History
Quincy is making its 22nd appearance in the GLVC Tournament and its second straight trip to the postseason. The Hawks have captured three tournament championships, most recently last season in 2025, when they defeated Maryville in the title game.
Maryville will be making its 13th overall appearance and eighth consecutive trip to the GLVC Tournament. The Saints have won the tournament once, capturing their lone title in 2012.
Matchup History
Since 2010, Quincy and Maryville have met 27 times, with the Saints holding a narrow 14-13 advantage in the series. The teams met earlier this season at Maloney Arena in St. Louis, where Maryville controlled the matchup in an 85-60 victory over the Hawks.
The programs have also met twice previously in the GLVC Tournament. Quincy claimed the most recent meeting in last year's championship game, defeating the Saints 64-60 to secure the conference title. The other postseason matchup came in 2012, when Maryville knocked off the No. 1-seeded Hawks 70-66 in the semifinals on its way to the program's only tournament championship.

Players to Watch
For Quincy,
Katey Flynn will be a key factor offensively. The guard started the season strong but has faced some scoring struggles down the stretch, scoring fewer than 10 points in five of the last eight games. Flynn still averages 11.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game, and her ability to create offense could play a crucial role if the Hawks hope to pull off the upset.
Senior center
Acheampomaa Danso, a Second Team All-GLVC selection, brings experience and leadership to Quincy's lineup. Danso has appeared in over 100 games during her career and is one of three players remaining from last year's championship roster. She averages 10.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, and has recently found a strong offensive rhythm, scoring in double figures in four straight games while averaging 17.0 points per contest during that stretch.
Freshman guard
Karly Peters will also play an important role in managing the Hawks' offense. Quincy has battled turnover issues throughout the season, while Maryville ranks among the conference leaders in forcing turnovers at 17.46 per game. Peters serves as one of the team's primary ball handlers and has already made 24 starts, ranking second on the team in minutes per game, as she will need to help limit QU turnovers.
Maryville is led by sophomore guard Lindsey Schadewalt, last year's GLVC Freshman of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection this season. She is the Saints' only double-digit scorer, averaging 14.9 points per game, which ranks seventh in the GLVC. Schadewalt has scored in double figures 21 times, including six games with 20 or more points, and enters the tournament averaging 24.0 points over her last two games. She scored 32 points against Quincy during Maryville's upset win in Pepsi Arena last season and added 16 points in the GLVC Championship game, that same season, proving she can score with the best of them.
Down low, junior forward Alicia Burgos anchors one of the best defensive teams in the conference. The 6-foot-2 post player was named to the GLVC All-Defensive Team and ranks third in the conference with 40 blocks, serving as a key rim protector in Maryville's defensive system against a Hawks team that loves to score down low.
Junior guard Annika Pluemer adds another disruptive presence on the defensive end. While averaging just 3.1 points per game, Pluemer ranks fifth in the GLVC with 53 steals and has also recorded 10 blocks, highlighting Maryville's defensive identity.
Around the Bracket
The GLVC Tournament begins Thursday with the No. 1 seed and No. 25 ranked Missouri–St. Louis hosting No. 8 seed Upper Iowa in the opening game at 12:00 p.m. The winner of that matchup will advance to face the winner of No. 5 seed Lewis and No. 4 seed McKendree, which will be played in Friday's first semifinal at 12:00 PM.
On the other side of the bracket, the winner of Quincy and Maryville will move on to face the winner of No. 3 seed Drury and No. 6 seed Truman State. That semifinal matchup is scheduled for 2:15 PM on Friday.
The two semifinal winners will then meet in the GLVC Championship game on Sunday, with the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament on the line.
Final Thoughts
The Hawks will enter the tournament as the underdog and defending champion, looking to spark another postseason run as the No. 7 seed. Quincy will need strong ball security and efficient offense to overcome one of the conference's top defensive teams.
Live stats and streaming for the GLVC Tournament Quarterfinal matchup will be provided by the GLVC and can be accessed through the Quincy athletics website or the GLVC website. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:15 PM from the Mark Twain Building in St. Louis, Missouri.
