QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team saw a two-set lead disappear on Friday night as Roosevelt completed the reverse sweep inside Pepsi Arena, defeating the Hawks 20-25, 12-25, 25-21, 25-20, 15-10. The loss drops Quincy to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in GLVC play.

The Hawks came out firing in the opening set, jumping ahead 5-1 behind kills from four different players. Roosevelt kept the set close and pulled within one at 9-8, but Quincy capitalized on five Laker errors to stretch the advantage to 17-11. The lead remained steady from there as the two teams traded points late in the set. Pawel Tuz closed out the frame with a kill, while Barnabas Fenyvesi delivered three late kills to help the Hawks secure a 25-20 opening set victory. Quincy hit .323 with 13 kills and just three errors in the set, while Roosevelt hit .179 and committed seven attacking errors along with four service errors.

Fenyvesi stayed hot in the second set, hammering home four early kills to give Quincy a 10-6 lead. The advantage grew to 14-6 after three more Roosevelt errors, and the Hawks never looked back. Quincy closed the set on an 11-5 run, highlighted by a 6-0 burst, to dominate the frame 25-12 and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. The Hawks were outstanding offensively, hitting .526 with 12 kills and only two errors, while Roosevelt struggled to a -.217 hitting percentage with just four kills and nine errors.

The momentum shifted in the third set, which featured 13 ties and three lead changes. Neither side led by more than three points for much of the set, and with the score tied at 21-21, Roosevelt ended the frame on a 4-0 run behind two kills and a service ace to take the set 25-21. Quincy still hit .286 with 11 kills and only three errors, but four service errors proved costly. Roosevelt found its offensive rhythm, posting 15 kills and a .300 hitting percentage.

The Hawks attempted to stop the momentum swing in the fourth set, building an early 8-3 lead. Roosevelt answered with a five-point run to even the score at 8-8, forcing Quincy to use a timeout. The Lakers continued to build momentum and surged ahead 18-12. Quincy attempted to claw back into the set, but Roosevelt held on for a 25-20 victory to force a decisive fifth set. The Lakers hit .346 in the set with 14 kills, while the Hawks hit .286 with eight kills and just two errors.

Roosevelt carried that momentum into the fifth set. After the two teams traded points early, the Lakers pulled away with a run that pushed the lead to 12-6. Quincy struggled to make adjustments offensively as Roosevelt completed the reverse sweep with a 15-10 win in the final frame. The Lakers hit .462 in the fifth set with seven kills and only one error, while Quincy hit just .067 with four kills and three errors.
