QUINCY, Ill. – Freshman pitcher
Haley Martin has been named the Quincy University Toyota Star of the Week after a strong showing in the circle that helped power the Hawks to a doubleheader sweep on the road.
The Hallsville, Missouri native appeared in three games over the past week, highlighted by a pair of key performances against Upper Iowa. Martin first saw action earlier in the week against Parkside, where she made the start and worked 5.1 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits while striking out five.
She then played a pivotal role in the Hawks' doubleheader sweep over the Peacocks. In game one, Martin was called upon in a high-pressure situation during extra innings. With Quincy holding a 12-10 lead and the tying run at the plate, the freshman needed just one out to secure the victory. She delivered, inducing a groundout to first base to lock down her first collegiate save.
Martin carried that momentum into game two, where she earned the start and delivered a dominant outing. She tossed her fifth complete game of the season, throwing 114 pitches across seven innings while allowing just two runs on seven hits. She also issued two walks and recorded a season-high six strikeouts in the 7-2 victory over Upper Iowa.
Martin continues to establish herself as a reliable arm for the Hawks, showing composure in both starting and relief roles.
Martin and the Hawks are back in action today as they face Central Missouri in a midweek matchup before returning to GLVC play to take on Truman State on Saturday, March 28th at 12:00 and 2:00 PM, and William Jewell on Sunday, March 29th at 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
