Hawks Roll Past Thomas More Behind Wilkinson’s Career Day, Earn Second Straight Victory

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's lacrosse team secured its second straight victory in dominant fashion Sunday afternoon at QU Stadium, erupting for a 20-5 win over Thomas More. The Hawks used a decisive second-quarter surge and a balanced offensive attack to take control and never look back, improving their early-season momentum with back-to-back wins.

Quincy struck first just 36 seconds into the contest when Alaina Wilkinson found the net, but Thomas More answered to tie the game before Anni Moran finished a feed from Wilkinson to restore the lead. The Saints again responded, tying the score at 2-2, before Wilkinson capitalized on a man-up opportunity to push Quincy ahead. Thomas More's Payton Davis evened the game once more, sending the teams to the quarter break tied 3-3 after a back-and-forth opening frame.

The Hawks seized control in the second quarter with an explosive offensive stretch. Amelia Ham opened the period with three consecutive goals to ignite a scoring run, while Moran added another off a Ham assist. After the Saints briefly cut into the margin, Wilkinson answered, and Emily Leal and Raena Crews followed with goals to extend the lead. Ham converted another man-up opportunity, and Wilkinson closed the half with her fourth goal, capping a nine-goal quarter that gave Quincy a commanding 12-5 halftime advantage.

Quincy continued to dictate play in the third quarter as Wilkinson struck early, Moran added another off a Leal assist, and Wilkinson completed her career day with two more goals in the period. Ham closed the quarter with a late score, stretching the Hawks' lead to 16-5 entering the final frame.

The defensive effort was just as dominant after halftime. The Hawks completely shut out Thomas More over the final 30 minutes, allowing only six total shots in the second half, and just one on goal, while controlling possession and limiting the Saints' scoring opportunities.

Quincy put the finishing touches on the victory in the fourth quarter. Ham opened the scoring before Moran netted back-to-back goals, including one assisted by Wilkinson. Jaynie Chatman capped the afternoon with her first goal of the season off a Wilkinson assist, sealing the 20-5 final.

Wilkinson led Quincy with a career-high six goals and nine points, adding three assists in a dominant all-around performance. Ham matched the scoring output with six goals and two assists, while Moran contributed five goals and an assist. Crews, Leal, and Chatman each added a goal to round out the Hawks' scoring.

Quincy outshot Thomas More 38-21 and held a 30-9 advantage in shots on goal. The Hawks controlled possession with an 18-10 edge in draw controls and forced 17 turnovers while committing 14. Quincy also held advantages in ground balls (18-14) and clears, converting 11-of-14 attempts. Goalkeepers Ava Condos and Madison Whiting Wagner combined for seven saves in the win.

With the victory, the Hawks continue their early-season surge and will return to action on Friday, March 6, at 12:00 PM when they host their next contest at QU Stadium.
