Hawks Gear Up for Rematch at Midway

QUINCY, Ill. - Quincy University sprint football will close out its regular season on Saturday, October 24th, when the Hawks travel to Midway, Kentucky, to take on Midway University at 12:00 PM.

Quincy enters the matchup in third place in the Midwest Sprint Football League standings, setting up a challenging final regular-season test against a Midway squad sitting atop the conference.

The Hawks will also head into the weekend with some individual recognition after Jensen Laughlin was named the MSFL Special Teams Player of the Week.

The award marks the first player of the week honor for Quincy sprint football this season and recognizes Laughlin's contributions on special teams. In the Hawks' earlier meeting with Midway, Laughlin connected on field goals from 32 and 39 yards while also handling the team's punting and kickoff duties.

He averaged 34.3 yards on four punts, including a long of 57 yards, and recorded a kickoff average of 60.5 yards.

Game One Against Midway

Quincy and Midway last met on September 27th at QU Stadium, where Midway earned a 65-12 victory. The Hawks showed their ability to sustain drives and move the ball throughout the contest, finishing with 20 first downs on 84 offensive plays.

Quincy recorded 86 net rushing yards and 178 passing yards, while converting nine of 21 third-down opportunities.

Laughlin opened the scoring for Quincy with a 32-yard field goal in the first quarter, capping a nine-play, 50-yard drive that lasted 4:42. He added a 39-yard field goal in the second quarter following a 14-play, 63-yard drive.

The Hawks continued to work offensively after halftime, putting together a seven-play, 73-yard drive in the third quarter that ended with Donnell Packer's one-yard touchdown run.

Quincy finished with 264 total yards of offense, and the experience from that earlier matchup will provide a reference point as the Hawks prepare for the rematch on the road.

Midway's Recent Challenge

Midway enters the regular-season finale with a 4-1 record and first place in the MSFL standings.

The Eagles' only loss came in their most recent outing on October 17th, when they fell 28-9 to Calumet College of St. Joseph. Despite the result, Midway finished with 320 total yards, including 277 passing yards, and recorded 16 first downs.

Midway started that game with an early scoring drive, connecting on a 34-yard field goal before quarterback Christian Carter found Chase Williams for a 26-yard touchdown pass. The Eagles held a 9-7 advantage after the first quarter, and the teams went scoreless in the second.

Midway's defense continued to compete through the third quarter, but Calumet took the lead on a three-yard interception return for a touchdown. Calumet added two passing touchdowns in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Carter completed 17 of 28 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown, while Williams led the Eagles with six receptions for 84 yards and a score.

Saturday's Contest

The matchup presents Quincy with an opportunity to finish its regular season against the conference's top team. With third place in the MSFL standings, the Hawks will look to carry their work throughout the season into Saturday's contest.

Special teams will be a key area to watch, with Laughlin coming off his conference recognition and having already connected on two field goals against Midway earlier this year.

Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 24th, at Midway University in Midway, Kentucky, as Quincy closes out its regular-season schedule.
