Quincy Concludes Regular Season at Midway

MIDWAY, KY - The Quincy University sprint football team wrapped up its 2026 regular season on Saturday afternoon, traveling to face Midway University at Midway Turf Field.

The Hawks battled throughout the contest, with several defensive stops and individual rushing performances, but Midway capitalized on offensive opportunities to earn a 51-0 victory.

First Quarter

Quincy opened the game with possession and worked to establish its rushing attack. Travon Hegler-Wright carried the ball for seven yards on the opening drive, while Deuce Allaway added a pass attempt before Midway's defense forced a punt.

The Hawks' defense responded on Midway's first possession, holding the Eagles to a missed 34-yard field goal attempt after they advanced into scoring territory.

Quincy continued to work defensively on the next series, with Thomas Murray Jr. recording an interception at the Hawks' six-yard line to stop another Midway scoring opportunity.

Quincy was unable to turn the takeaway into points, and Midway eventually broke through late in the opening quarter. Their quarterback connected with Chase Williams on a five-yard touchdown pass with 1:45 remaining, giving the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

The Hawks' defense came up with another important play shortly afterward, as Larry Watson Jr. recovered a Midway fumble at the Quincy 30-yard line. The recovery helped limit the Eagles' opportunities before the end of the quarter.

Second Quarter

Midway extended its lead early in the second quarter, putting together a 45-yard drive that ended with a 20-yard touchdown reception by Leondre Martin.

The Eagles added another score on their next possession when Noah Cropp broke free for a 31-yard rushing touchdown, bringing the score to 21-0.

Quincy continued to rely on its ground game to move the ball. Hegler-Wright broke off a 23-yard run during one drive, helping the Hawks gain field position, while Donnell Packer contributed on the ground as Quincy looked to generate offensive momentum.

Midway, however, continued to find success through the air. Trahan connected with Penther Alphonse for a 33-yard touchdown with 50 seconds remaining in the half, extending the Eagles' advantage to 28-0.

The final minute brought another challenging sequence for the Hawks, as a sack resulted in a fumble that Midway recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. Quincy then recorded an interception through Carter Hildebrand, who picked off a Midway pass to halt another drive.

The Hawks also put together a late pair of rushing plays, with Hegler-Wright gaining 12 yards and then breaking off a 21-yard run to move the ball into Midway territory before halftime.

Midway carried a 35-0 lead into the break.

Third Quarter

Midway opened the second half with a quick scoring drive, covering 80 yards in less than a minute. Christian Carter connected with Isaiah Mattingly for a 59-yard completion before finding Williams for a 21-yard touchdown pass, pushing the score to 42-0.

Quincy attempted to respond with a pair of short completions from Justin Vega to Evan Lopez and Hector Ramirez. The ensuing drive ended in a safety, adding two points to Midway's lead.

The Hawks' defense later made a key stop in the red zone. After Midway advanced inside the Quincy 25-yard line, the Eagles were pushed backward by the defense, including a sack credited to Kyron Dunae and Logan Cannady.

Thomas Murray Jr. then blocked a 37-yard field goal attempt, with Logan Cannady recovering the ball to give Quincy possession.

Quincy put together one of its longer drives of the afternoon following the defensive stop. Packer broke loose for a 17-yard run to help move the Hawks into Midway territory, while Byron Keith and Hector Ramirez added rushing attempts. The drive ultimately ended with an interception.

Midway added its final touchdown of the afternoon with 4:31 remaining in the third quarter when Leondre Martin broke free for a 41-yard rushing score, making it 51-0.

Quincy continued to compete on both sides of the ball late in the quarter. Packer recorded another 16-yard run to help move the Hawks away from their own goal line, and the defense forced Midway to punt as the quarter came to a close.

Fourth Quarter

The Hawks opened the final quarter with possession, but Midway intercepted a pass to regain the ball near the Quincy 25-yard line. Quincy responded defensively, limiting the Eagles to three yards on their ensuing possession and forcing a missed 37-yard field goal attempt.

Quincy continued to work the rushing attack in the fourth quarter. Lawrence Benson recorded a 12-yard run, while Packer added carries as the Hawks moved the ball out from their own territory.

The offense also connected with Lafabian Fain for a four-yard reception before Midway's defense stopped the drive on fourth down.

The Hawks' defense continued to make plays in the closing minutes. Jensen Laughlin delivered a 54-yard punt, helping Quincy flip the field position, and the defense later recovered a Midway fumble through Landen Robinson to set up another offensive opportunity.

Quincy advanced into Midway territory late in the game. Vega connected with Bryson Thomas for a short completion, and the Hawks attempted a 52-yard field goal with 5:35 remaining, but the kick fell short.

Midway maintained possession for the final minutes, and the game concluded with the Eagles holding a 51-0 advantage.
