UIS Shoots Lights Out in 91–60 Win Over Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – The BOS Traveling Cup is heading back to Springfield, as Illinois Springfield delivered an offensive clinic in a 91–60 victory over Quincy on Thursday night at Pepsi Arena. The Prairie Stars remained undefeated in GLVC play, while the Hawks fell to 7–7 overall and 2–4 in conference action.

Illinois Springfield wasted little time setting the tone, jumping out to a 13–6 lead in the opening seven minutes as all five starters found the scoring column. Quincy struggled to find a rhythm early, opening the game just 3-for-12 from the field.

The Prairie Stars pushed the margin into double figures near the eight-minute mark, taking a 24–13 lead behind elite shooting efficiency that made it difficult for the Hawks to slow the momentum.

Quincy showed signs of life over the final eight minutes, knocking down four triples to keep pace offensively. Tiernan Stynes led the surge, connecting on three three-pointers during the stretch. Despite the improved shooting, UIS continued to score at will and carried a 42–30 advantage into the locker room.

UIS shot 61.5 percent from the field and 5-of-9 from three in the opening half, while Quincy shot 33.3 percent overall and 5-of-14 from deep. The early shooting disparity and inability to string together defensive stops put the Hawks in a double-digit hole.

The Hawks came out of the break with energy, opening the half on a quick 6–2 run to briefly trim the deficit. That momentum was short-lived, however, as UIS guard Jordan Rice took over offensively. Rice scored 14 points in the first five and a half minutes of the second half after totaling just two in the opening period, quickly stretching the lead to 19.

From there, the game followed a familiar script. Illinois Springfield continued to carve up the Quincy defense, while the Hawks struggled to generate sustained offense or momentum. Herb Martin closed out the scoring for Quincy with a fastbreak finish, but the outcome was long decided in the Prairie Stars' 91–60 win.

Illinois Springfield finished the night shooting 61.8 percent from the field and an eye-popping 61.1 percent from three-point range. Quincy was held to 33.3 percent shooting overall and 34.8 percent from deep.

The rebounding battle was relatively even, with UIS holding a slight 33–30 edge, and both teams took care of the basketball with fewer than 10 turnovers apiece. A major difference came in the paint, where the Prairie Stars outscored the Hawks 40–16.

Ethan Bolton paced Quincy with 14 points off the bench, knocking down a season-high four three-pointers. Stynes and Camren Kincaid, the Hawks' top two scorers on the season, struggled from the field, combining to shoot 7-for-27. Illinois Springfield showcased its depth, placing five players in double figures as part of a balanced offensive effort.

Quincy will look to bounce back on Saturday, January 10, when the Hawks host the University of Indianapolis. Tipoff is set for 3:00 PM following the women's game.
