JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Hawks snapped a four-game losing streak in emphatic fashion on Saturday afternoon, rolling past the Lincoln Blue Tigers, 64–47, at Jason Gym behind a dominant defensive effort and balanced scoring attack.
Quincy held Lincoln to just 26.8 percent shooting from the field, the lowest mark by any opponent against the Hawks this season, and forced 22 turnovers, turning those miscues into 20 points on the other end. The Hawks placed nine players in the scoring column, including three in double figures, as they controlled the game from the second quarter on.
Offense was hard to come by early for both sides, with each team struggling to find a rhythm. Quincy held a slim 6–4 edge midway through the quarter behind a quick four points from
Acheampomaa Danso. A triple from
Hampton Williams pushed the Hawks' lead to 12–7 before Lincoln closed the frame at the free-throw line, making it 12–9 after one. Both teams shot under 40 percent in the opening period and combined for 12 turnovers.
The Hawks seized control in the second quarter. After Lincoln opened the frame with a three-pointer to tie the game, that basket proved to be the Blue Tigers' only field goal of the quarter. Quincy responded with a decisive 17–1 run over the final eight minutes, getting contributions from seven different players while shooting 6-of-11 from the field. Lincoln went scoreless from the floor during that stretch and committed six turnovers, as the Hawks carried a commanding 29–13 lead into halftime.
Quincy continued to build separation in the third, outscoring Lincoln 11–7 over the opening five minutes.
Hayven Harden provided an immediate spark off the bench, accounting for six of those points. Lincoln attempted to keep pace by getting to the free-throw line, but continued struggles from the field and another seven turnovers kept the Blue Tigers at bay. The Hawks led 48–27 heading into the final period.
The Hawks maintained control throughout the fourth quarter, pushing the lead to as many as 25 points at 60–35 with just under four minutes remaining as Quincy continued to score by committee. Lincoln closed the game on a late run after the Hawks emptied the bench, but the outcome was never in doubt, with Quincy securing the 64–47 road victory.
Quincy finished the afternoon shooting 43.1 percent from the field, while limiting Lincoln to 11 made field goals. Both teams struggled from beyond the arc, with the Hawks shooting 30.4 percent and the Blue Tigers just 16.7 percent. Quincy dominated inside with 28 points in the paint and recorded 25 bench points.
Despite being out-rebounded 37–33 and committing 22 fouls, the Hawks' defensive pressure proved decisive, as Lincoln managed only seven points off Quincy turnovers.
Williams, Danso, and
Sydney Runsewe each scored 11, 11, and 10 points, respectively, to lead the Hawks. Williams also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, surpassing the 400-rebound mark for her career.
Blair Eftink added nine points on a season-high four made field goals, while
Katey Flynn filled the stat sheet with seven points, five assists, four steals, four rebounds, and a block.
