Hawks Grind Out 65–60 Road Win at Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Hawks jumped back into the win column on Saturday afternoon, grinding out a 65–60 road victory over the Lincoln Blue Tigers. Quincy led wire-to-wire after Lincoln opened the game 0-for-10 from the field, building an early double-digit cushion that the Blue Tigers were never able to fully erase.

Quincy set the tone early, jumping out to a 14–3 lead over the first six minutes as Lincoln struggled mightily to find the bottom of the net. The Blue Tigers' slow start contrasted sharply with Friday night's contest against Missouri–St. Louis, as Lincoln missed its first 10 shots from the field. During the opening surge, the Hawks knocked down triples from Jakeb Wallingford and Lorenzo McMillion, who earned his first start in a Quincy uniform.

Lincoln finally found some offensive rhythm over the next six minutes, connecting on a pair of three-pointers to trim the deficit to eight at 21–13. The momentum continued late in the half, as the Blue Tigers shot 5-of-6 from the field over the final five minutes while the Hawks went 3-of-8, allowing Lincoln to pull within four. Despite the late push, Quincy maintained the lead heading into the break, 30–26.

While the Hawks controlled the opening half, they were unable to fully pull away. Both teams shot under 40 percent from the field, with Quincy holding a slight edge from beyond the arc, 4–3. Turnovers also played a factor, as the teams combined for 15 in the half, but the Hawks capitalized by converting those miscues into 10 points compared to just one for Lincoln.

Lincoln came out firing to open the second half, hitting its first three shots and cutting the Hawks' lead to just one at 35–34 near the first media timeout. Quincy responded with its best stretch of the game, rattling off an 11–2 run over the next four minutes. Tiernan Stynes sparked the run with five points, while Ethan Bolton added four, pushing the Hawks' advantage back to double digits at 46–36 with under 12 minutes to play.

The Blue Tigers refused to go away, leaning heavily on the three-point shot to trim the deficit to five with five minutes remaining. Down the stretch, the teams traded baskets as Lincoln continued to connect from deep, but Quincy remained composed at the free-throw line. The Hawks went 8-of-12 from the stripe in the final minutes, highlighted by a timely three-pointer from Stynes, to secure the 65–60 victory.

Quincy finished the game shooting 40.7 percent from the field, while Lincoln's early shooting woes left the Blue Tigers at 38.9 percent for the contest. Lincoln connected on 10 three-pointers, while the Hawks hit seven of their 17 attempts from beyond the arc. Quincy also proved efficient at the free-throw line, converting 14-of-18 attempts, including several key makes late.

The Hawks dominated on the glass, holding a 38–28 rebounding advantage and pulling down 13 offensive boards. Those extra possessions translated into 18 second-chance points, tying a season high. Although the turnover battle was even at 13 apiece, Quincy made better use of the opportunities, scoring 17 points off turnovers compared to six for Lincoln.

All nine Hawks who saw action found the scoring column. Camren Kincaid led the way for the second straight game and the seventh time this season, finishing with 16 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Stynes was the only other Hawk in double figures, tallying 13 points while grabbing a game-high eight rebounds.

Quincy returns to Pepsi Arena for the first time in the calendar year on Thursday, January 8, as the Hawks take on Illinois Springfield. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM following the women's game, with the Prairie Stars entering the matchup tied atop the GLVC standings at 9–4 overall and a perfect 5–0 in league play.
