Hawks Drop Road GLVC Dual at No. 25 Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Hawks dropped a GLVC dual on Thursday afternoon, falling 28-9 to the 25th-ranked Greyhounds of Indianapolis. Quincy won three of the 10 bouts on the day, while UIndy secured seven victories, including two by bonus points.

The dual opened with Indianapolis picking up six points at 125 pounds via forfeit, but the Hawks responded quickly at 133. Te'Andre Allen put together a strong performance, controlling the pace throughout a 5-0 decision over Jadon Gyan to get Quincy on the board.

At 141, the Greyhounds reclaimed momentum as Zach Haughton edged Zyan Westbrook in a tightly contested 8-7 decision.

The marquee bout of the afternoon came at 149 pounds, where No. 9 Sabian Russell squared off with No. 11 Gavin Garcia in a top-15 national matchup. After trailing late in the third period, Russell delivered a clutch takedown in the final minute and used his riding time to secure a 5-3 decision, handing Garcia his first dual loss of the season and cutting the team score to 9-6.

Indianapolis answered with back-to-back bonus point wins at 157 and 285. Michael Ortega earned a second-period technical fall (16-1, 5:08) over Isaiah Nichols, while No. 11 Cale Gray closed the dual with a 15-0 technical fall in just over three minutes against Cody Ruiz.

Quincy picked up its third victory of the dual at 165 pounds, as Jackson Jones prevailed in a hard-fought 10-8 decision over Mason Day. Jones used late offense to pull ahead in a bout that featured multiple lead changes.

The remaining bouts were decided by narrow margins in favor of the Greyhounds. Shane Bates pulled away late for an 8-2 decision over Mac Chambers at 174, Christian Chavez earned a 2-1 tiebreaker victory over No. 10 Callan Ivy at 184, and Ethan Farnell held off Donnell Packer for a 4-1 decision at 197.

The Hawks will look to bounce back on Saturday, returning home to face the eighth-ranked Bearcats of McKendree University at 1:00 PM inside Pepsi Arena.
