Wolfard and Oberschmid Power Hawks to Road Victory

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Quincy University women's soccer picked up its first win of the 2025 season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Davenport University 2-0 at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.

The first half was a stalemate as the score was nil to nil. Jessie Newton registered the first shot of the match, narrowly missing wide in the 8th minute. Newton later forced a save in the 18th minute with a low shot on frame, while Emma Tell and Emily Richardson added attempts before the break, but the teams went into halftime locked at 0-0.

The breakthrough came in the 69th minute when Ella Wolfard, last season's leading scorer, found the back of the net with a low strike to the left side, assisted by Newton. Ten minutes later, the Hawks doubled their advantage as Marina Oberschmid converted from nearly the same spot, again set up by Jessie's second assist of the day.

Wolfard, Jessie, and Oberschmid earned the nod as the game's three stars. Wolfard tallied her first goal of the season, Jessie provided two key assists while generating offensive chances of her own, and Oberschmid sealed the victory with her late strike.

Freshman goalkeeper Devin Tracy also earned her first career win and shutout in net, making two saves to keep Davenport off the board.

With the win, Quincy improves to 1-1 on the season and will return home to face Union University on Fri., Sept. 12, at 2:00 PM at Legends Stadium.
