HAMMOND, Ind. - Quincy women's soccer showed resilience on Thursday evening in Hammond, Indiana, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome in a 3–2 loss to Purdue Northwest.
The Hawks struck first when
Rebecca Rheinheimer found the net less than two minutes into the match, finishing off a setup from
Ella Wolfard to make it 1–0. The Pride responded quickly, however, scoring three unanswered goals in the first half to seize control at the 11th, 16th, and 39th minutes.
Quincy regrouped after halftime and battled back. Nine minutes into the first half, Wolfard delivered a goal of her own to pull the Hawks within one, but despite generating chances and winning six second-half corner kicks, the equalizer never came.
Wolfard finished the night with a goal and an assist, while Rheinheimer scored once on two shots on target.
Jessie Newton provided an attacking spark with three shots, two on goal. In net,
Devin Tracy recorded four saves while going the distance.
Overall, Quincy was edged in shots 14–12 but earned an 8–5 advantage in corner kicks while controlling much of the second half.
The Hawks will look to bounce back when they travel to Davenport University on Saturday, Sept. 6, with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m. EST at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
