QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three matches on Friday evening at Jack Mackenzie Field, blanking Upper Iowa 2-0 behind a pair of first-half goals and a stout defensive effort. The victory moved the Hawks to 4-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in GLVC play.
The Hawks jumped on the scoreboard in the 27th minute when
Ella Wolfard struck for her 18th career goal, a finish that also pushed her career total past 40 points. Just ten minutes later, forward
Emma Tell made her mark with her first collegiate goal, giving Quincy a 2-0 cushion heading into halftime.
From there, Quincy controlled the tempo of the match. The Hawks kept possession for the majority of the game, dictating the pace in the attacking zone and forcing Upper Iowa to sit back and defend for long stretches. That control led to a 21-5 edge in total shots and consistent pressure on the Peacocks' back line.
Defensively, Quincy leaned on goalkeeper
Devin Tracy, who turned away three shots to secure her fourth shutout of the season. She was backed by a composed back line featuring
Marina Oberschmid,
Reese Wingbermuehle, and
Gracie Vierra, who held Upper Iowa without a shot on goal in the first half and kept chances limited throughout the night.
The victory marked Quincy's third straight win and their fourth shutout in the first seven matches of the season. The Hawks will look to carry that momentum into next week, returning home to Jack Mackenzie Field for a GLVC matchup against Truman State on Friday, October 3, with kickoff set for 5:00 PM.
