Rheinheimer’s PK Secures Draw as Hawks Turn Focus to GLVC Play

QUINCY, Ill. — Quincy women's soccer earned a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Union University on Sunday afternoon at Jack Mackenzie Field. The Hawks and Bulldogs traded goals in each half during the nonconference matchup, as Quincy secured a result in their final tune-up before the start of GLVC play.

The opening half was marked by physical play, with Quincy whistled for five fouls before the break. Reese Wingbermuehle picked up a yellow card in the 43rd minute, highlighting the intensity of the contest. Union grabbed the early advantage when Rebekah Jackson scored in the 10th minute off assists from Paige Blackburn and Lucia Revuelto. Quincy's attack gradually found its rhythm as the half wore on, generating six shots and two corner kicks but unable to find the equalizer before halftime.

The Hawks' offense came alive after the break, pushing the tempo and creating consistent chances. Quincy tallied eight shots in the second half, and the breakthrough came in the 74th minute when Rebecca Rheinheimer calmly buried a penalty kick to level the score at 1–1. The equalizer gave the Hawks momentum, but despite several late looks, the match remained deadlocked until the final whistle.

The final numbers reflected a tightly contested matchup. Union held a narrow edge in total shots, 16–14, with both sides placing five on target. Each goalkeeper finished with five saves, including a steady performance from Devin Tracy in net for the Hawks. Union earned seven corner kicks to Quincy's four, while the Hawks were whistled for 10 fouls compared to four for the Bulldogs. On the back line, defenders Reese Wingbermuehle and Marina Oberschmid anchored the Quincy defense, each going the full 90 minutes and making a strong impact in preserving the draw.

The Hawks will look to get back into the win column when they travel to Lewis University on Sunday, Sept. 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Lewis Stadium in Romeoville, Illinois, as the matchup kicks off GLVC play.
