ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — Quincy women's soccer battled to a 0–0 draw against Lewis on Sunday afternoon at Lewis Stadium, opening Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a hard-fought point on the road.
Both sides had their chances in a physical contest. The Hawks generated nine shots, including three on target, with
Rebecca Rheinheimer firing a team-high five attempts and substitute
Morgan Tucker nearly breaking through in the 80th minute before her shot was saved.
The defense once again anchored Quincy's effort, with
Marina Oberschmid,
Gracie Vierra, and
Reese Wingbermuehle logging heavy minutes along the back line. Wingbermuehle also picked up a yellow card in the 84th minute as the Hawks fought to preserve the clean sheet. Goalkeeper
Devin Tracy played all 90 minutes and held Lewis without a shot on goal, marking her second shutout of the year.
Statistically, Lewis edged the Hawks 4–3 in corner kicks and committed seven fouls to Quincy's five. Both defenses held strong throughout, with Lewis goalkeeper Josie Graziosi making three saves to deny the Hawks a breakthrough.
The Hawks (1–1–2, 0–0–1 GLVC) will look to build on the result as they continue conference play on Friday, September 19, traveling to Springfield, Illinois, to face the Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield. Kickoff is set for 5:00 PM at Kiwanis Stadium.
