INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Quincy University volleyball has been picked to finish second in the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league office announced Monday. The Hawks received four of the 14 first-place votes and totaled 150 points, narrowly trailing Lewis, who garnered five first-place votes.
Quincy comes off another strong season, finishing 25-6 overall and 11-2 in GLVC play, earning the No. 1 seed in the GLVC Championship Tournament and making its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Mark Jones enters his seventh season with a 125-52 career record, aiming to lead the Hawks back to the top of the conference.
The Hawks return a talented core of players, including First Team All-GLVC setter Elena Kasavica and outside hitter Susanna Beretti, as well as 2023 AVCA Third Team All-American Alice Pavan, who missed last season due to injury.
- Kasavica led the league last season in assists (1,392), aces (54), and aces per set (0.46).
- Beretti finished second in the GLVC for kills (478) and points (531), while also ranking in the top five for aces (44) and points per set (4.50).
- Pavan, returning from injury, ranked among the top 10 in multiple GLVC categories in 2023, including second in hitting percentage (.416) and third in blocks (120).
The Hawks also return 31-game starter Erin Matzke and libero Janelle Pye-Blacknard. Matzke led the team with 88 total blocks, in addition to 147 kills, while Pye-Blacknard led the team with 455 digs, ranking ninth in the GLVC.
Quincy opens the 2025 season on the road at the UIS Tournament, where they will face off against Kentucky Wesleyan, Roosevelt, Central Missouri, and Lake Superior State across two days on September 5th and 6th, looking to build on its strong foundation and compete for a conference title and NCAA Tournament bid once again.
