INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Quincy University continued its historic academic awards week as a program-record 35 student-athletes were named Brother James Gaffney Distinguished Scholars, the Great Lakes Valley Conference announced.
Inaugurated during the 2016-17 academic year, the Brother James Gaffney Distinguished Scholar Award is named after Brother James Gaffney, FSC, who served as President of Lewis University for more than 27 years and was a two-term Chair of the GLVC Council of Presidents. The award is presented annually to student-athletes who achieve a 4.0 grade point average during the course of the academic year.
The Hawks' 35 recipients marked the highest total in department history, surpassing the previous record of 25 set last year. Quincy's honorees represented 15 different programs, with Women's Soccer leading the way with five selections. Women's Lacrosse and Women's Swimming each added four honorees, while Men's Soccer, Men's Swimming, and Women's Volleyball each had three student-athletes recognized.
