QUINCY, Ill. — The Quincy University men's tennis team battled in GLVC action on Saturday afternoon (April 12), but came up short in a 5-2 decision against Rockhurst University at Reservoir Park.
The Hawks started strong in doubles play, claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Inigo Villacampa and Joseph Restrepo secured a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Rodrigo Coello Treviño and Gianni Lopez followed suit with a 6-4 win at No. 2. Rockhurst salvaged the No. 3 doubles court, but Quincy carried a 1-0 lead into singles.
In singles action, Rockhurst turned the tide, earning five of the six matches to seal the team win. Quincy's lone singles point came courtesy of Gerard Abad Puig, who turned in a commanding 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4.
Villacampa fought hard in a three-set battle at No. 1 singles, taking the opening set 7-6 (7-4) before falling 4-6, 4-6. Restrepo and Lopez were each defeated in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, while Coello Treviño and Pablo Mateos Niella dropped their matches at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

The Hawks will look to bounce back next week when they continue their GLVC slate on the road against Drury University. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 PM on Thursday, April 18 in Springfield, Missouri.
