Slow Second Half Plagues Hawks at UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Quincy University men's lacrosse team made an impromptu trip south to Alabama on Wednesday to face off with the Chargers of University of Alabama-Huntsville after a late drop opened up the schedule.

The Hawks held their own in the first half, scoring eight goals compared to nine from UAH, but a quiet final 30 minutes of play found Quincy on the wrong side of a 16-11 final score.

Haakon Steen led the way for QU, tallying six total points thanks to four scores and a pair of assists while Jameson Essen notched a quartet of goals along with a caused turnover.

Essen got the scoring started a little under two minutes into the contest, netting his first on a feed from Eli Cowan. Following a pair of Chargers scores, Essen got right back to it, scoring an unassisted goal at 8:47 to even the tally before finding the back of the net just over a minute later on a pass from Steen to put his side ahead 3-2. Sean Usher scored the final QU goal of the quarter at the 2:20 mark to knot the tally at 4-4, prompting a UAH goal to close out the quarter at 5-4.

Goals from Steen and Caidyn Prediger to open the second quarter vaulted the Hawks back out in front 6-5. Cowan netted his first of the contest later in the quarter to push ahead 7-6 until a pair of Alabama-Huntsville scores put the Chargers at the forefront with 2:05 left on the clock.

A man down goal from Steen at the 25 second mark made it 8-8 as UAH responded just moments later to move in front 9-8 at the break.

Two Chargers scores opened the second half as a Steen score formed the Hawks only offensive output of the quarter that saw UAH outscore QU 3-1 and move ahead 12-9.

Essen and Steen closed out the Quincy scoring in the four quarter with goals at the 13:15 and 4:48 marks, respectively to four Chargers scores to bring the game to a close at a 16-11 final score.
