ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Quincy University men's lacrosse team opened up its GLVC conference schedule with a 2:00 PM showdown at No. 10 Lewis on Tuesday (Mar. 18), dropping the contest by an 18-4 final score.
The Hawks were unable to get anything going in the opening 15 minutes, being held off the scoreboard while LU scored on four occasions to lead after one quarter.
Jameson Essen got QU on the board at the 7:08 mark of the second frame, finding the back of the net on a
Caleb Hensley feed as the Hawks scored once more in the quarter at the 1:09 mark to bring the tally to 9-2 at the break.
Mason Luoma added a goal at the 1:00 mark of the third quarter on a pass from
Haakon Steen, before
Eli Cowan concluded the Hawks scoring with an unassisted goal in the third minute of the fourth.
Despite recording the loss, Hawks keeper,
Austin Vetter set a new program record for saves in a single game, turning away 30 of the 48 shots he faced in the contest. Vetter's 19.86 saves per game average and .612 save percentage rank first and 12th nationally, respectively.

The Hawks aren't back in action until next month when they travel to Kansas City, Missouri to take on the Hawks of Rockhurst for a 12:00 PM GLVC showdown on Sunday (Apr. 6).
