Pendergrass Claims Third Toyota Star of the Week Honors

QUINCY, Ill. - After earning the first All-American placement in QU wrestling program history at NCWWC National Championships, Trinity Pendergrass has been named the Toyota Star of the Week for a record, third time this season.

The Toyota Star of the Week aims to highlight the top Quincy University performer for the given week across all 28 Hawks' sports. Toyota has been a continued sponsor of QU Athletics, supporting all Hawks to soar to new heights.

Pendergrass opened with a tough 6-4 defeat at the hands of Sophia Cornish of Colorado Mesa before ripping off four straight wins to reach All-American status and placement rounds.

First was a 12-5 decision over Emily Klein of East Stroudsburg in the first consolation round before the Palmer, Alaska native dealt Grace Jones of Tiffin a 15-5 tech fall defeat at the 4:54 mark of the match.

Next was a victory by fall over Dinayah Vazquez of Emmanuel after 4:12 of elapsed time to send the Hawks' 110-pounder to the fourth round of the consolation bracket, just a victory away from national placement.

With the entire season riding on the match, Pendergrass rose to the occasion; besting a tough opponent in Chloe Dearwester of Presbyterian by 7-4 decision to reach placement rounds and officially become the Hawks' first All-American wrestler.

A 10-0 tech fall loss to eventual sixth place finisher, Isabella Frezzo of New Jersey City in round five consolation action sent Pendergrass to the seventh place match, which she claimed by medical forfeit over Dianna Holmes of King to bring the season to a close as the nation's seventh best 110 lb collegiate women's wrestler.
