Baseball Drops Heartbreaker to Lincoln Memorial

HARROGATE, TN – The Hawks were back in action on Saturday (Feb. 8), taking on Lincoln Memorial for game two of a three-game set. Quincy looked for a bounce-back game after dropping game one of the series yesterday 7-6, but weren't able to find the win in an 11-10 loss to the Railsplitters
 
The Railsplitters quickly got on the board against Hawks starter Kobe Essien in the home first. Two batters into the game, they found themselves with a 2-0 lead after a hit-by-pitch and a two-run home run.
 
Moving into the top of the second, the Quincy offense took advantage of multiple free bases that were given to them from LMU. The bases would be loaded after a pair of singles and a walk when the first run trotted home after a bases-loaded walk from Jake Vitale. The Hawks tied the game up at two apiece after a sacrifice fly from Ben Dahlof. Quincy tagged the Railsplitters for three more after an error, another bases-loaded walk, and an RBI groundout.
 
Essien made quick work in the bottom half of the second, as the Hawks went 1-2-3 in the top of the third after LMU went to the bullpen. Senior infielder Kasten Havey started things off with a bang in the home third with a solo shot for his third home run in the series, cutting the Hawks lead down to two.
 
Fast forward to the bottom of the seventh, after both teams were held scoreless through the middle innings, Lincoln Memorial cut the Quincy lead in half with a sacrifice fly to left field. The Hawks triggered the offense once again in the top of the eighth inning. Five straight hits to start the inning extended the Hawks lead to 8-4. An RBI groundout from Cole Erickson and an RBI single from Byron Blaise to center field capped off the second five-run inning of the game. Kyle Manship was the fourth man out of the bullpen and put down the Railsplitters in the bottom half.
 
After a scoreless top half of the ninth, Lincoln Memorial poked the ball around the yard, along with taking advantage of a few walks to knot things up at ten. A passed ball would send the Railsplitters home happy after a miraculous seven-run ninth inning.
 
The Hawks will be back in action tomorrow beginning at 12:00 PM EST for the series finale against Lincoln Memorial.
