LEBANON, Ill. - The Hawks closed out their GLVC slate of duals action for the season with a tough 33-8 loss at the seventh-ranked team in all of DII in the Bearcats of McKendree on Wednesday evening (Feb. 5).
Sabian Russell and
Easton Norris highlighted the evening for Quincy, picking up the lone Hawk wins of the contest.
Russell defeated Gunnar LeGrand in his 141 match, taking the dual by a 15-0 tech fall at the 2:12 mark of the bout. Norris showed a lot of resilience in his 157 match, coming out on top in a very back-and-forth battle with Luke Kemper, taking the barn-burner of a match by 15-13 decision to secure the Hawks' final points of the match.
Jackson Jones came up just short in his 165 matchup with Cory Peterson, dropping a tightly contested 8-7 decision.
Maxim Ryner gave Ridge Schutte a run for his money before the Hawks' 197-pounder ultimately dropped his match by 3-1 decision.
Other action included a 10-3 decision for Anthony Bernardo over Quincy's
Isaac Bourge at 133 pounds along with Bearcats' victories for Joey Semerad over
Zachary Harrington (MD 13-4) at 149, Jason Strope over
Brian Farley (Fall 1:46) at 125, Matt Ortiz over
Dalton Schell (TF 19-3) at 174, Shamon Handegan over
Callan Ivy (MD 15-4) at 184 and Tyler Haynes over
Caleb Groff (TF 21-3) in the heavyweight showdown.
