QUINCY, Ill. – Caleb Groff of Quincy University men's wrestling has been named the QU Toyota Star of the Week after capturing an individual championship in the Hawks' season-opening competition at the Luther Hill Open in Indianola, Iowa, on Sunday.

The redshirt junior from Oak Grove, Missouri, and Oak Grove R-VI High School put together a perfect 4-0 performance in the Open 285-pound bracket, becoming one of five Hawks to capture individual titles at the tournament.

Groff opened his season in dominant fashion, securing a 12-1 major decision victory over Ian Sharples of Central College. He followed that performance with an impressive showing against Owen Willers of Simpson College, needing just 51 seconds to record his first fall of the season.

The Quincy heavyweight continued his strong tournament run against Donovan Mann of Nebraska Wesleyan, picking up his second consecutive first-period fall in just 1:54 to advance to the championship match.

With an individual title on the line, Groff squared off against Brayden Hill of Iowa Western Community College. The redshirt junior capped his undefeated afternoon with a 5-1 decision, securing the 285-pound championship and beginning his 2026-27 campaign with a tournament title.

Across his four victories, Groff recorded two falls, one major decision and one decision. Both of his falls came in the opening period, with the two victories combining for just 2:45 of mat time.

The championship performance helped highlight a successful season-opening tournament for Quincy, as the Hawks finished the Luther Hill Open with five individual champions across the competition.

Groff and the Hawks will return to action on Saturday, November 14, when they travel to Decorah, Iowa, for the Luther College Open. Competition is scheduled to begin at 9 AM from the Regents Center.
