Bolton’s Double-Double Powers Hawks Past Roosevelt

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy men's basketball team continued its gritty stretch of play on Tuesday afternoon, grinding out a 67–57 victory over Roosevelt University in the final game of the Hansen-Spear Classic inside Pepsi Arena. Despite a turnover-filled first half, the Hawks pulled away late to secure their second straight win and improve to 6–5 overall heading into the heart of GLVC play.

For the second straight game, both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm early. Quincy battled missed shots and early turnovers, but Roosevelt was unable to capitalize, as the Hawks held a slim 4–2 lead four-and-a-half minutes into the contest.

Offenses began to loosen up over the next stretch, with the Lakers evening the score at 11 midway through the half. Roosevelt then put together a quick 6–0 run, sparked by a three-pointer and a three-point play, to grab its first lead of the game. Freshman Owen Duff provided an immediate spark off the bench with five straight points, but Roosevelt continued to answer with perimeter jumpers, maintaining a 26–20 edge with under five minutes remaining.

The final minutes of the half featured back-and-forth scoring. Ethan Bolton delivered six points down the stretch to keep Quincy within striking distance, but the Lakers held the advantage at the break, 32–28.

Turnovers plagued the Hawks early, as Quincy committed 13 in the opening half while shooting just 38 percent from the floor. However, free throws proved vital in keeping the game close, with QU converting 10 first-half attempts compared to just one for Roosevelt.

Quincy came out with renewed energy after halftime, opening the second half on a 9–2 run to reclaim the lead at 37–34. The surge was fueled by strong interior play, as the Hawks converted four layups during the opening stretch.

What followed was a tightly contested battle over the next 10 minutes. Neither team was able to create separation, and the score remained tied at 51 with six minutes to play.

The Hawks then generated a key 6–0 run to regain momentum, though Roosevelt refused to go quietly, knocking down tough shots to stay within striking distance. With Quincy leading by four late, Tiernan Stynes delivered a momentum-shifting three-pointer with 90 seconds remaining. Moments later, Duff drilled another triple to put the game out of reach, sealing the 67–57 victory.

Quincy finished the afternoon shooting 45.3 percent from the field, while Roosevelt shot 41.4 percent. Both teams struggled from beyond the arc, with the Hawks going 4-of-16 and the Lakers 5-of-22. Once again, the free-throw line proved decisive, as Quincy made 15 free throws compared to just four for Roosevelt.

The Hawks dominated the glass, outrebounding the Lakers 42–23, QU's largest rebounding margin of the season. Turnovers remained an issue, with Quincy committing 18 overall, leading to 21 Roosevelt points off turnovers.

Bolton turned in a monster performance, recording the first double-double of his collegiate career with 17 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Camren Kincaid continued his consistent scoring stretch, reaching double figures for the eighth straight game with 12 points, while also adding six rebounds and a season-high six assists. Jakeb Wallingford chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds, and the bench duo of Duff and Preston Brewer combined for 12 points, including timely second-half buckets.

The Hawks will enjoy an extended holiday break before returning to action in the new year. Quincy opens 2026 on the road at the University of Missouri–St. Louis on January 2, with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 PM following the women's game inside the Mark Twain Building.
