QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team celebrated Senior Day in style on Saturday afternoon inside Pepsi Arena, sweeping Upper Iowa 25–23, 25–13, 25–22 to earn its seventh straight victory and improve to 20–5 (9–2 GLVC) on the year. The win marks the fourth consecutive season Quincy has reached the 20-win plateau, and the Hawks extend their winning streak to four straight matches over Upper Iowa.
Before the match, Quincy honored its senior class of
Janelle Pye-Blacknard,
Alice Pavan,
Zeynep Cetin,
Bre Banks, and
Pinar Dugeroglu, who each played key roles in shaping the program's continued rise.
Quincy opened the match strong, taking a 5–2 lead in the first set as setter
Elena Kasavica immediately looked to her senior attackers, with early kills from Cetin and Pye-Blacknard. The set remained tight throughout, with neither side able to create separation greater than three points. Tied at 21–21, the Hawks closed with timely execution, as a kill from Pye-Blacknard and an Upper Iowa attack error secured a narrow 25–23 set one win. Quincy was locked in offensively from the start, hitting .436 with 20 kills and just three errors, and
Susanna Beretti was nearly perfect in the frame, finishing 6-for-7 with no errors.
The Hawks carried the momentum into the second set, jumping out to an 8–1 lead and never looking back. Quincy dominated with multiple scoring runs and efficient sideout execution, taking the set 25–13. Offensively, the Hawks were firing at full efficiency, hitting .459 with 21 kills, while holding Upper Iowa to just six kills in the set.
Set three mirrored the first, as both teams traded points with neither gaining more than a three-point advantage. Quincy trailed 22–21 late, but when the Hawks needed a run, they delivered. Pye-Blacknard hammered down two key kills, and
Selin Turgut added a clutch service ace as Quincy closed the match on a 4–0 run to take the final set 25–22 and complete the sweep.
Statistically, Quincy's attack was overwhelming. The Hawks recorded 58 kills to Upper Iowa's 30, hit .365 as a team, and out-dug the Peacocks 66–48. Blocks were even at six per side, while Upper Iowa held a slight edge in service aces (5–2).
Individually, Pye-Blacknard shined on Senior Day, posting a career-high 18 kills while hitting .385 and adding 12 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. Her 19.5 points push her over 500 career points across her time at Quincy and Southern University. Beretti continued her dominant stretch, finishing with 20 kills for the third straight match, hitting .515 while leading all players with 20 digs for another double-double. Pinar Dugeroglu made her QU debut and recorded two kills in the second set. Kasavica once again orchestrated the attack with 51 assists and 17 digs, marking another impactful performance from the Hawks' senior setter.
With the win, Quincy remains firmly positioned near the top of the GLVC standings, currently sitting one game behind Rockhurst and two behind UMSL for the league lead, while UIndy trails closely behind in fourth.
The Hawks now turn to their final regular-season road swing, traveling to Rolla, Missouri, to take on Missouri S&T on Friday, November 14th at 6:00 PM inside Gibson Arena. Quincy has won six straight in the series, while S&T enters at 9–16 (4–7 GLVC).
