Hawks Struggle to Contain Ground Attack in Road Loss to Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, Iowa – The Quincy University football team dropped its second straight game on Saturday afternoon, falling 41–8 to Upper Iowa in Fayette. With the loss, the Hawks move to 5–5 overall and 3–3 in GLVC play, while the Peacocks improve to 8–2 and earn their fourth consecutive victory behind a dominant performance on the ground. Upper Iowa controlled the tempo from start to finish, rushing for over 400 yards and five touchdowns.

Upper Iowa struck first late in the opening quarter, finishing off a 98-yard drive with a rushing score to take a 7–0 lead. The Peacocks continued to build momentum in the second quarter, stringing together sustained drives and adding two more rushing touchdowns along with a 40-yard field goal to extend their advantage to 24–0. Quincy broke through just before halftime, putting together a sharp 7-play, 77-yard drive capped by a touchdown pass from Bradyn Little to Jackson Burnett with three seconds left in the half, Burnett's fourth receiving touchdown of the season. The Hawks converted the two-point attempt to make it 24–8 heading into the break.

Upper Iowa quickly regained full control in the second half. A field goal pushed the lead to 27–8, and two additional rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach. The Peacocks' offensive line dictated the pace, as Upper Iowa averaged 8.5 yards per carry and controlled possession for 36:20, compared to Quincy's 23:40.

Statistically, the Peacocks' rushing output marked the most rushing yards allowed by Quincy this season, and it was also the second straight week the Hawks surrendered over 500 yards of total offense. Offensively, Quincy was held to 14 first downs for the second consecutive week, matching its season low. The Hawks were limited to 59 rushing yards as a team and are now 1–5 this season when they fail to reach 100 yards on the ground. Through the air, Little threw for 233 yards and a touchdown, but also threw an interception for the third straight week after throwing just one across the first seven games of the season.

There were still meaningful individual performances. Owen Hampton recorded a career-high 87 receiving yards, while Collin Parsons rushed for 81 yards on 19 carries, averaging more than four yards per attempt. Defensively, Brock Wiley led the unit with 14 tackles, marking his fifth double-digit tackling performance of the year, and he also grabbed the first interception of his career. Brock Inman added his second straight and third total game this season with ten or more tackles.

The Hawks will return home for Senior Day next Saturday as they host Southwest Baptist University at QU Stadium. The Bearcats enter the matchup at 3–6 on the season and have lost four straight, but have performed well away from home with a 3–1 road record. Quincy has won the last two meetings in the series and will look to make it three straight as they aim to close the regular season strong in front of their home crowd. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
