Hawks Start Season 2–0 Behind Katey Flynn’s Career Night

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Quincy women's basketball closed out its weekend at the GMAC/GLVC Crossover in style, improving to 2–0 with a convincing 78–61 win over Ursuline. The Hawks controlled the game wire-to-wire and were powered by an explosive, career-high 32-point performance from junior transfer Katey Flynn, who dominated all night and served as the engine of QU's offense for the second straight game.

Quincy wasted no time grabbing momentum as Acheampomaa Danso scored inside on the opening possession, and Blair Eftink buried a corner three to make it 5–0. After Ursuline briefly cut it to 5–2, Flynn took over, scoring five straight points, including a transition and-one to push the Hawks ahead 10–4.

Quincy's defense forced several early turnovers, and despite a few empty offensive trips, the Hawks stayed comfortably in front thanks to Flynn's early playmaking, a three from Maddie Casey, and strong offensive rebounding. Ursuline hit a late three and a pair of free throws, but Flynn closed the frame with another free throw, sending QU to the quarter break up 18–13.

The second quarter featured the Hawks' first major run. Leading 18–15, Flynn drilled a deep three off a Danso kick-out, then forced a turnover on the next possession. Danso followed with a tip-in, and Karly Peters scored in transition as QU suddenly stretched its lead to 25–15.

Ursuline crept within five at 30–25 behind timely perimeter shooting, but the Hawks closed the half strong. Flynn hit a pull-up jumper, Casey added a fastbreak bucket, and Eftink drilled a late three to cap a 7–2 run, giving QU a 37–30 lead at halftime.

Ursuline opened the half with free throws to cut the lead to four, but Flynn answered with a tough finish at the rim. Eftink then buried a three off a Danso assist, quickly making it 42–34.

The Hawks maintained control as Flynn hit free throws, Reagan Reed knocked down a big three, and Peters added a fastbreak layup off a Flynn assist. Quincy's perimeter defense tightened, forcing several Arrow turnovers. With Flynn, Reed, Peters, and Williams all chipping in baskets during a stretch of efficient team basketball, QU pushed the lead to 55–45 heading to the fourth.

The Hawks saved their best basketball for the final 10 minutes. Karly Peters opened with a finish inside, and Flynn added back-to-back layups—one in transition—to push the lead to 61–50. Quincy's defensive press forced consecutive turnovers, and Peters and Flynn converted on the other end to make it 63–50.

Flynn continued her takeover with a jumper and then a deep three with 1:30 left, putting her at 32 points and giving the Hawks their largest lead of the night at 74–56. Danso added a late jumper off a Flynn assist, and Flynn closed the scoring at the line to secure the 78–61 win, as Quincy never once trailed in the contest.

Quincy controlled the game with balance, efficiency, and defensive pressure. The Hawks shot 41.5% from the field and a strong 32% from three, while holding Ursuline to 40.7% overall and just 25% from three. QU won the glass decisively, 43–31, creating 12 second-chance points. The Hawks also capitalized on the Arrows' turnovers, scoring 19 points off giveaways.

Katey Flynn erupted for a career-high 32 points on 11-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-4 from deep and 7-of-9 at the line. She added seven rebounds, four assists, and five steals, completely dictating the game on both ends and serving as the engine behind every major QU run.

Hampton Williams once again stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with nine points, eight rebounds, and four assists, providing steady two-way play and key transition setups during QU's game-changing runs.

Blair Eftink gave Quincy needed spacing, scoring nine points on three made threes while adding two steals and consistent floor spacing that opened driving lanes for Flynn and Peters.

Acheampomaa Danso posted a balanced line of seven points, nine rebounds, and five assists, controlling the glass and creating offense from double-teams in the post with smart kick-outs.

Karly Peters was a defensive menace, scoring 10 points while adding five steals, four rebounds, and two assists. Her on-ball pressure changed the game, especially during QU's second-half surge.

The Hawks return home on November 21st to host the Hansen-Spear Classic, where they will face Missouri Southern at 7:00 PM inside Pepsi Arena, looking to build on a strong 2–0 start to the season.
