JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Quincy University women's soccer team showed its resilience on Friday night, scoring a pair of late goals to secure a 4–2 road victory over Lincoln at Dwight T. Reed Stadium. The win lifts the Hawks to 10-2-2 overall and 9-1-1 in GLVC play, keeping them tied for first place in the conference standings with McKendree.
Lincoln struck first in the 9th minute, but the Hawks responded before halftime as
Marina Oberschmid finished off a pass from
Jessie Newton to send the game to the break tied at 1–1.
Quincy grabbed the lead midway through the second half when
Abbie Martin came off the bench and delivered in the 73rd minute. The Blue Tigers answered in the 82nd minute to even things once again, but the Hawks saved their best for last. Just 90 seconds later,
Ella Wolfard buried a chance in the box to make it 3–2, and with just over two minutes to play,
Rebecca Rheinheimer added her team-leading ninth goal of the season, which also ties her for second in the GLVC, to close out the 4–2 victory.
The Hawks outshot Lincoln 18–4, putting 13 shots on goal, while goalkeeper
Devin Tracy made two saves. Quincy also dominated set pieces, earning eight corner kicks compared to none for the hosts.
Quincy will return home on Sunday, October 26th, for a marquee GLVC matchup against the University of Missouri–St. Louis. The Tritons enter the contest at 9-3-2 overall and 8-1-2 in GLVC play, setting up a battle between two of the league's top teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 PM at Don Dallas Soccer Field.
