Hawks Shut Out Miners for Fifth-Straight Win in Series

QUINCY, Ill. - Quincy women's soccer returned to the win column in dominant fashion on Sunday afternoon, earning their eighth shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over Missouri S&T at Jack Mackenzie Field. The victory extended the Hawks' win streak over the Miners to five straight, as QU improved to 9-2-2 overall and 8-1-1 in GLVC play.

The Hawks broke through late in the first half when Dache Johnson found space on the attack and buried her second goal of the year after a perfectly placed ball from freshman Abbie Martin, who collected her first career assist. Quincy doubled the advantage in the 80th minute as Claudia Andreu set up Rebecca Rheinheimer, who chipped a ball over the keeper that was tapped in by Ella Wolfard for her sixth goal of the season. Rheinheimer notched her fourth assist of the year, while Andreu added her second.

Quincy's defensive unit turned in another lockdown performance, keeping the Miners without a goal despite 10 shots. Reese Wingbermuehle, Gracie Vierra, and Marina Oberschmid anchored the back line, each playing the full 90 minutes. Jessie Newton and Alayna Vela controlled the midfield, also going the distance. In net, Devin Tracy made three saves to secure the clean sheet.

Statistically, the match was tight with Quincy holding a 9-10 disadvantage in total shots, but the Hawks converted their chances efficiently with two goals on target compared to none for the Miners. Quincy also held a slight 3-4 edge in corner kicks and showed strong discipline defensively despite eight fouls.

The Hawks will look to build on this result as they return to action on Friday, October 24, with a 5:00 PM road matchup in Jefferson City, Missouri, against Lincoln University.
