Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University swim program competed against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Maryville University on Friday evening (Jan. 24). The Hawks hammered major wins for both teams; the women won 135-39, and the men posted a 117-61 score.
Women's Results
The Hawks were able to get first place finishes in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle before letting the Saints hit the wall first. Bella Sparrow,
Faith Cummings,
Olga Pucarevic, and
Vanja Vrbanec finished the medley in 1:50.25, eight seconds prior to the Maryville relay group.
Cassie Rankin won the 200 freestyle with a 2:07.49 time.
The Saints took the 50 freestyle by half a second.
Shelby Smith was the first Hawk back at 26.94.
The Hawks took first in the remaining events in the meet.
Faith Cummings took both the 200 backstroke and the 200 breaststroke titles with a 2:16.97 in backstroke and a 2:34.15 in breaststroke. Her backstroke was a personal best and broke the top-10 times for the Hawks and her breaststroke was .01 seconds behind her fastest swim.
Kaitlynn Malarney recorded the Hawks' second fastest 200 butterfly time Friday evening with a 2:17.78. The Hawks broke the 800 freestyle relay pool record at 8:26.45, courtesy of Bella Sparrow,

Men's Results
The Hawks went back and forth with the Saints on which team would take the top finisher for the first half of the meet. Maryville opened things up with a 200 medley relay that was .2 seconds faster than the Hawks' 1:38.97 time from
Juri Bauer,
Andres Santana,
Lucca Arantes, and
Ian Caballero.
Denislav Koykov borke the pool record in the 200 freestyle with his 1:41.53 time.
Brendan Worster and
Lucca Arantes each took first in the 200 IM (Worster) and 200 butterfly (Arantes). Arantes's 200 fly is the second fastest fly this season behind Walsh's record breaking fly from the first half of the season.
Jeronimo Augurusa Franco swam his fastest 200 backstroke this evening, and fell short of first place by .39 seconds.
The Hawks finished with another tight race in the 800 freestyle, this time however, between Quincy groups. The quad of
Denislav Koykov,
Zack Kopsea,
Wojciech Chalat, and
Jackson Rerick took the reigns with a 7:17.13 time and snapped the Bank of Springfield Aquatic Center pool record. The next group of Hawks weren't far behind, only finishing a second from the top group.
"We had a great meet and it was fun to mix up some events and swim fast," said head coach
Bryan Christiansen. "I am most proud of the 800 free relay and I think we have a great tradition of that here at Quincy. It's always great to swim fast."
The Hawks have a short turnaround and will face William Jewell College on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
