ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Hawks had a dominant showing at the Missouri Baptist University Open, placing nine individuals throughout six weight classes, highlighted by a first place finish from
Trinity Pendergrass in the 110 division.
Pendergrass, a national tournament qualifier from a season ago, used an opening round 10-0 tech fall over Samantha Kruize of McKendree before besting Andrea Karagiannis of Missouri Baptist with a 15-4 tech fall in the quarterfinal.
The Palmer, AK native topped a pair of regionally ranked foes from McKendree to close out the championship run, taking down third ranked Kiona Conner in the semis with a 7-1 decision before toppling the top ranked wrestler in the region and #12 110-pounder in the country, Samantha Miller by 6-2 decision.
Mackenzie Graves turned in a second place finish in the 103 division, winning four of her five matches featuring three falls and a tech fall, dropping her only match to the 103 champion Sienna Caruso, an 8-2 decision.
Maddy Barton and
Trinity Donovan both finished inside the top three of the 138 and 145 classes, respectively, as Barton picked up two falls and three tech falls on the way to her third place finish while Donovan captured her third place placement with four fall victories.
Vianey Hernandez added a fourth place finish in 103 action while
Sereena Baca and Madisyn Crawford took home fifth place finishes in 110 and 180, respectively.
Alexandra Tchekounova and
Abby Rhodes rounded out the Hawks' placers, both ending their runs in sixth position in the 117 and 138 divisions, respectively.
Next Up
The Hawks are traveling right back to Missouri Baptist next Wednesday (Jan. 22) to take on the Spartans for a dual match. Action from St. Louis is set to start at 5:00 PM from the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC.
