Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University men's soccer team played their first game at Jack Mackenzie field on Sunday (Sept. 8). The Hawks started strong against the Wildcats of Northern Michigan University but eventually fell 2-0.
The Hawks started their home opener with ferocity, moving the ball quickly from player to player and putting high pressure on the Wildcats when they gained possession. The Wildcats pounced on their first shot on goal, an unbelievable shot from the left side of the field that skimmed the crossbar and hit the back of the net. The Hawks finished the half with their lone shot on goal.
The second half brought much more physicality than the first with each team receiving two yellow cards by the end of the game. Goalkeeper
George Roke was busy in the second half with six saves, including a one-on-one foot save in the 55th minute of the game, followed by a save off the corner kick that followed.
The Wildcats broke through on a close range shot that sealed their win.
The Hawks will return to Legends Stadium for a mid-week match up against Purdue Northwest on Wednesday, September 11th. Kickoff will be at 2 p.m.
