Hawks Keep #6 Maryville Close

St. Louis, Mo. - The Quincy University women's lacrosse team faced #6 Maryville on Sunday (April 7). The Hawks improved upon their last meeting with the Saints, only losing 16-10.

The Hawks struck first with a solo Amelia Ham goal. Patricia Chavira drew two free position shots and converted both into goals, putting the Hawks ahead the Saints 3-2 in the final minutes of the first quarter. The Saints responded well with two more goals before the end of the quarter.

Anni Moran got things started for the Hawks in the second with a goal off an Amelia Ham assist. Danielle Robinson scored back-to-back goals, the first assisted by Ham and the other after drawing a free position shot. Moran and Chavira finished the scoring for the Hawks in the second, only trailing the Saints by two goals at half.

Emily Leal got her first of the game toward the end of the third and Ham finished her six-point game with the Hawks final goal.

Kelly McClure played between the pipes for the Hawks, making 16 saves and picking up six ground balls. McClure held the Saints to 16 goals, the second-least number they have scored all season. The Hawks' 10 goals is the most the Saints have given up this season, the only other team to score this many being Northern Michigan.

The Hawks come back to QU Stadium on Friday to face the University of Indianapolis.
