Hawk Fun in the Sun; Top Lewis 11-10

Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University women's lacrosse team took advantage of the sunny weather on Sunday (April 14) and came out with a huge conference win over Lewis. Today's win sits the Hawks tied for third place in the conference standings with just two games left to play before playoffs.

After the stellar week she's had in attack for the Hawks, Danielle Robinson started the goal celebrations early with one on a pass from Anni Moran within the first minute of the game. Lewis tied it up shortly after with a goal of their own, but the game was Hawks all the way after that.

Felicia Young found the net from senior Patricia Chavira and Amelia Ham got her own to put the Hawks up with five to go in the first period. Emily Leal got her first of the game in the last minute of the quarter, assisted by Ainslie Reynolds.

The second quarter was all Robinson, scoring three goals for the Hawks, two assisted by Chavira and one by Reynolds.

Despite a quick goal from Moran after the half, the Hawks scoring slowed down in the back end of the game, only putting up four to their seven in the first half. Chavira assisted Moran with her goal and then dished to Leal who put one in later in the quarter. Lewis built some momentum in the third quarter, cutting their three goal deficit in the first half to two going into the final quarter.

Elise Bruggeman went to the penalty box at the start of the fourth, but the woman-down start was nothing for Amelia Ham, who got her thirtieth goal of the season. She then dished the ball to Leal for the Hawks' final goal of the game.

Chavira led the team in points on Sunday with five all hailing from assists and tied for the lead in ground balls with three. Mikenna Ham led in draw controls with four. Kelly McClure worked between the pipes for the Hawks today, making 12 saves. This week alone, McClure has made 41 saves over three games and averages 11.3 saves a game, which could rank her in the top ten once the NCAA stat lines are updated.

The Hawks play their final regular season home contest on Friday, April 19th against new-to-women's lacrossse William Jewell College. Senior day will be celebrated on Friday with the first draw control set at 5 p.m.
