Quincy Hawks Swept in Kansas City

Kansas City, Mo. - The Quincy University softball team began their trip to the west at Rockhurst University on Saturday afternoon (April 13). Quincy fell quickly in both games, losing 4-2 and 11-3 respectively.

Game One
The Hawks went under quickly in the second inning of game one, giving up a home run and a one-run double to the Rockhurst Hawks. Despite efforts in the third and fourth innings offensively, Quincy did not get on the board.

It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Hawks made some noise in the first game. Avery Funk walked and with help from some pinch hitters and runners, the Hawks got Lindsey Fischer and Megan McPherson across the plate for two runs late in the game. The Rockhurst Hawks worked quickly after, taking the score up another run in the bottom of the inning.

Quincy made a last-minute effort in the top of the seventh inning with a walk and a left-side single but fell victim to a fielder's choice, ending the game 4-2.

Abbey Hultz started in the circle for the Hawks and struck out six. Eileen McGinnis retired Hultz after five innings.

Game Two
The Rockhurst Hawks struck hard again in the second inning of the second game, scoring six runs on a single, a double, a home run, and an error. They finished the cycle in the fourth inning wiht a triple to right, putting Quincy under seven runs.

Maddy Findley had enough and cracked one over the fence to left center, bringing both her and Jessie Martin dancing back to the dugout. Martin then returned the favor in the sixth inning sending a ball deep into left, bringing Allyson Maynard home.

Rockhurst finished the game in the sixth with four more runs on four hits.

KJ Weller started in the circle for the Hawks in game two, striking out four.

The Hawks look to bounce back as they face William Jewell in Liberty, Missouri tomorrow.
