Hawks Send Falcons Flying in First Home Win

Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University women's lacrosse team earned back their .500 record with a huge win over the Notre Dame College Falcons on Monday afternoon (March 4). The Hawks powered through a strong offense and 14 saves from senior goalkeeper Kelly McClure

Play was pretty even between the birds of prey at the start and end of the Monday matinee. Though Quincy struck quickly with a goal from Amelia Ham, the Falcons had a goal of their own just minutes later. Goal scoring went back and forth the first quarter with one goal each from Danielle Robinson, Alaina Wilkinson and Emily Leal, and another goal from Ham at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, the Hawks pushed away from the Falcons, scoring five. Wilkinson earned her second of the night followed shortly by Patricia Chavira's first goal of the evening. Chavira assisted Robinson in the next play, helping the Hawks to an 8-4 score with seven minutes remaining in the quarter. Ham earned a woman-up goal after her sister Mikenna Ham caused a turnover in the defense. Wilkinson had her first free position goal of the evening with three minutes left of play, and Ainslie Reynolds finished the offensive period with her first goal of the season.

McClure made multiple difficult saves in the second quarter, keeping the Falcons to just one goal.

The Hawks came out of their locker room fired up, and scored five more goals as a result. Wilkinson recorded two more goals, as did Leal. Ham and Robinson each had a goal in the third, giving the Hawks a significant lead and led to a running clock.

The fourth quart went in favor of the Falcons, who scored three unanswered goals at the start. Notre Dame scored a fourth in the last few minutes of play, which was enough to fire Robinson up for a quick one-two shot, assisted by Amelia Ham. Emily Leal closed out the game with a free position goal in the final seconds of the quarter.

The Hawks went over 50 percent in their shot-to-goal ratio and scored all but eight shots on frame. McClure had 14 saves and a ground ball added to her career while Leal led the team in ground balls (3), caused turnovers (2), and draw controls (7).

The Hawks will take the week to prepare for their trip to the Buckeye state where they will face Findlay, Walsh, and Ashland.
