Chavira Scores Five; Hawks Fall Short in End to Oilers

Findlay, Ohio - The Quincy University women's lacrosse team started their spring break trip to Ohio at the University of Findlay. Despite a stellar start, the Hawks fell to the Oilers 13-12.

Patricia Chavira had the first goal of the game, burying her redemption shot after her free position attempt off a Danielle Robinson pass. Amelia Ham found Anni Moran just a few minutes later to put the Hawks up two goals in the first three minutes. Robinson nabbed a goal of her own, assisted by Chavira who a minute later scored a free position goal. The Hawks ended the period up 5-2 with one final goal from Emily Leal.

Chavira scored back-to-back free position shots to start off the second quarter. The Oilers responded with two goals of their own, which were later negated by Robinson and Leal, who made it 9-4 going into the second half.

Findlay fought back at the start of the third with two goals at the start. Ham found Chavira in space on a woman-up opportunity at net, adding another tally to the Hawks' score. Findlay tied up the game in the final fifteen seconds of the quarter, putting the Hawks in a tough situation going into the final quarter of play.

The Hawks fell behind two goals at the start of the fourth quarter, but the freshmen of the Hawks worked to get back the lead. Alaina Wilkinson put one in on an Amelia Ham assist, and Felicia Young added a final woman-up goal to the Hawks' side of the scoreboard, but they were not enough for the Hawks to take the win.

Kelly McClure had 10 saves with two ground balls in the game. Ham led the team with four assists, Robinson just behind her with three. Kara Wilhelm held up the defense with two caused turnovers and five ground balls.

The Hawks face the Walsh University Cavaliers on Monday, hoping to get back into the win column.
