Strong Start for the Hawks Spoils in Canton

Canton, Ohio - The Quincy University women's lacrosse team added another game to their spring break road trip at Walsh University Monday afternoon (March 11). Despite scoring five in the first quarter, the Hawks fell behind in the second half, dropping to the Cavaliers 12-10.

Ainslie Reynolds started the Hawks offense with an unassisted goal in the fourth minute, her second of the year. The Hawks drew a green card foul, giving themselves a woman-up opportunity for Amelia Ham to score her first of four in the contest. The Hawks continued to work, giving senior Danielle Robinson the opportunity to score two back-to-back goals, one assisted by Patricia Chavira and the other coming off a woman-up opportunity. Ham finished the scoring again with a woman-up goal off a pass from Patricia Chavira.

The second quarter was quiet for both teams, despite the Cavaliers tying things up with five minutes to go. Anni Moran found the net with three to go to regain the lead while Robinson scored another with a minute on the clock for some extra cushion before halftime.

The Cavaliers struck quickly again, tying and taking the lead in the first half of the third quarter. Robinson was awarded a free position shot, of which she buried, tying the game once again. The Hawks jousted with the Cavaliers for the remainder of the game going goal for goal. Amelia Ham scored her third woman-up goal of the game near the end of the quarter to put the Hawks up, but it was later negated by two more Walsh goals.

Ham was the lone Hawk to score in the fourth quarter, scoring off a free position opportunity. Despite some tireless effort from the Hawks in the fourth quarter, they were unable to regain the lead.

Kelly McClure played three quarters of the game, making one save. Taylor Young filled in for McClure for the final quarter, making two saves of her own. In addition to being one of the highest scorers of the day, Ham also recorded the most ground balls with four. Chavira led the Hawks with seven draw controls, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls.

The Hawks continue to move back west in Ohio, stopping at Ashland for their final game of the trip.
