QUINCY, Ill. - The Hawks played host to the Mastadons of Purdue Fort Wayne for Senior Day on Saturday (Mar. 30) in Pepsi Arena. Quincy battled a close first set before fading in sets two and three to fall in the match in three frames (21-25, 13-25, 18-25).
Set One
PFW took the first five points of the match and jumped out t an early 12-5 advantage. Quincy took six of the next nine points on a pair of kills from
Keegan Carey and one from
Raje Alleyne along with errors to narrow the margin to 15-11.
Fort Wayne pushed the lead back up to six at 20-14 before a four-point run from QU on a pair of errors and back-to-back aces from
Aleksandar Sosa pulled the Hawks within two down 20-18. Quincy traded the next six points using an error and two kills from
AJ Goedheer to trail 23-21 before the Mastadons took the final two points and the set 25-21.
Set Two
The Mastadons roared out ot a convincing 10-2 advantage to open the second set. QU knocked the lead down to seven at 12-5 on kills for Roman Deryckere,
Logan Gieseke and another for Carey before PFW took seven of the next nine points to move ahead 19-7.
Quincy cut the deficit with a three-point run down the stretch featuring kills for Gieseke and
Barnabas Fenyvesi, but it was too little too late as Fort Wayne claimed the second set 25-13.
Set Three
After a nearly even start the Hawks took the initiative in the early going taking seven of nine points down 5-4 to burst ahead 11-7. Kills for
Zackary Zdrojeski and Alleyne along with blocks for Carey and Deryckere along with errors fueled the run. Shortly after trailing 14-9, the Mastadons used a four-point run to narrow the deficit to 14-13.
Fort Wayne equalized later in the set at 15-15 until a kill from Sosa gave his side a slim 16-15 advantage. It was all PFW from there as the Mastadons used a six-point run to open up a late 21-16 edge. QU was unable to recover from the oppositions late surge as Fort Wayne went on to take the set 25-18 and the match in three sets.

Quincy is on the road in Indiana for the final two contests of the year with the first taking place on Thursday (Apr. 4) against the Cardinals of Ball State. First serve from Muncie, IN is slated for 7:00 PM.
