Hawks Drop Finale at Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Hawks concluded their four-game set with the Panthers of Drury on Saturday (Mar. 30) with the finale at Meador Park in Springfield. QU led by five runs through the midway point of the ballgame before surrendering a 10-run sixth inning to drop the game 11-6.

Quincy got on the board in the first inning thanks to a leadoff double from David Broughton to put a man in scoring position before he advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a ground-out from Dustin Dupont to make it 1-0.Following a single and an error, Joe Huffman drove in another with a single to right along with an RBI double for JD Ortiz in the next at-bat to make it 3-0 after the top of the first.

Quincy starter, Seth West, worked scoreless innings in the first three innings to bring the Hawks to the plate again in the fourth. A one-out walk from Connor Simons put a man on for a two-run bomb to right field from Dupont to make it 5-0 Quincy.

Following a pair of clean frames in the fourth and fifth for a scoreless five innings of work from West, DU broke through in the sixth inning. Three-straight walks followed by an error plated a run before another walk and an HBP made it 5-3. The fifth walk of the inning made it 5-4 before two doubles, a single and a sac fly put the Panthers ahead 10-5.

The Hawks got one back in the seventh with a leadoff single from Dupont who was brought around to third on a ground ball and wild pitch before being pushed across on an error to make it 10-6.

Drury got another in the bottom of the seventh for the final of the contest to wrap up an 11-6 win over the Hawks
