Kirksville, Mo. - The Quincy University softball team traveled down Highway 6 to face the Bulldogs of Truman State University. The Hawks split the doubleheader with the Bulldogs. winning the first 2-0 and losing the second 4-3.
Game One
The Hawks started the road contest with a busy first couple of innings, forcing the Bulldogs to make plays on fly balls and stolen bases. The Hawks finally got on the board on a
Maddy Findley double that brought
Allison Kaiser home.
Both the Bulldogs and the Hawks had quick innings to follow. The Hawks secured the win in the top of the seventh, this time from the Allison/Allyson duo,
Allyson Maynard sent a ball up the middle with Kaiser coming home.
Abbey Hultz had a stellar show today in the circle, striking out a season and career-high nine batters. Hultz recorded the best showing from a pitcher this season, keeping the Bulldogs to four hits for no runs and sending nine back to the dugout.
Game Two
Mykah Hurley and
Lindsey Fischer got on base at the top of the second inning, each stealing a base to get into scoring position. Senior
Greta Specht sent a ball into the left grass, bringing both runners home.
This time the Bulldogs answered with a three-run double in the bottom of the second. The Hawks trailed by one after three full innings.
Ryleigh Jones changed the script for the Hawks in the fourth with a single up the middle.
Jessie Martin brought her home on a double down the left field line. But the Bulldogs, again, found a way to make the game go their way in the bottom of the fourth.
KJ Weller got the start for the second game, striking out seven batters in the process. Weller also had a season and career-high day with her seven strikeouts.
The Hawks look forward to another home slate this coming weekend, facing the Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield on Saturday.
